Gerald’s Breaking Point
Gerald’s Breaking Point
Gerald
had been working long hours for months—overtime, weekends, all without
extra pay. He sacrificed sleep and sanity to keep a roof over his
family's head, and he never once complained. His son was sick again, and
with his wife recently laid off, there was no room for pride; only
responsibility.
That afternoon, the phone rang. His son’s condition had worsened; this wasn’t routine. The hospital was calling.
Laptop bag in hand, Gerald walked into his boss’s office and politely asked to leave early.
The response came cold and sharp:
"Get back to work! Your son can wait!"
Gerald
stood silent, swallowing his frustration. He needed this job. He was
torn between duty and fatherhood, survival and soul. He didn’t argue;
but something in him cracked.
His body stayed.
But his heart had already walked out the door.
